I've had an email (back in March) from Stuart Wilson, who said:

I research KOSB soldiers of WW1 - the Alexander Thomson you are looking for is:

16800 KOSB, then 248934 Labour Corps

He is incorrectly numbered on the Labour Corps medal rolls as 167800. However, his correct number, 16800, is stated on a casualty list published 1 June 1915. It is also shown on his surviving service file (WO 364 series at TNA), from which a couple of years ago I noted a basic summary of his service:

Born abt 1895, Eyemouth, Berwickshire; father, William; resided Cocklaw, Ayton, Berwickshire; farm worker, enlisted at Berwick, 23/11/1914; BEF 22/04/1915-08/05/1915 with reinforcement draft to 2nd KOSB; 05/05/1915, GSW hand; 09/05/1915-26/01/1918, home service with 3rd KOSB, then as Private TR/1/4102, 39th Training Reserve Bn & then as Private 248934 Labour Corps, 454th H.S. Employment Coy, Labour Corps; BEF 27/01/1918-17/10/1918 as L/Cpl with 846th Area Employment Coy., Labour Corps; 18/10/1918, home service with 463rd Agricultural Coy, Labour Corps; 06/04/1919, to Class Z Army Reserve
